“Thousands of times, tens of thousands of times, it is this repetition that frees their hand from thought. It is this freedom that is the mother of all creation.”
Beauty of Everyday Things, Soetsu Yanagi
My creative process is intuitive and serendipitous. Ideas flow when my hands are immersed in clay, when I am thinking with them.
Some of my favourite pieces started as something entirely different. An unexpected challenge makes the wheels of my creativity spin.
But most of my work comes to life when there is a feeling I want to evoke or a specific way I want to invite the user to hold the piece.
The beauty of working with clay is that it allows me to go from an idea—or an inkling—to a three-dimensional piece in a short period of time. I find this process incredibly freeing.
