I love things.

I love things. Cosas. Objects. The special ones that wake up the butterflies. The ones with shapes and colours and textures that change the expression of faces when spotted. I love utilitarian simple objects above all—teapots, bowls, cups—because they have the power to enhance the rituals of life, the power to improve our daily experiences through beauty.

This love for objects is why I studied industrial design at university. A few years into working as a designer in an office-in-front-of- a-computer-all-day, I realised that I needed to go back to making things with my hands if I wanted to feel fulfilled and mentally balanced. It took me a few years more to find the medium, even though ceramics had been on my radar since I was a child. I started with slip casting because I thought it would be the best way to channel my industrial design skills. Then I tried wheel throwing and it was love at first touch.

This is how Julieta Ceramics came to be. I am Julieta. I make things with clay. I am in my best form when thinking with my hands. I put a lot of thought into craftsmanship. I hope my pieces transmit to you during your daily rituals the joy I experience when I make them.

A little more about me.

I am from Chile, but I have made beautiful and welcoming Australia my home. Being away from my family in Santiago and the Cordillera de los Andes is not easy, though.

I have made peace with the fact that I will always have a little hole in my heart.

Making helps me to keep that little hole in check.

Making is my love language.
